How is GharDesk different from other rental apps?
GharDesk is built specifically for the way Indian property owners actually work, PGs with rooms and beds, hostels with shared occupancy, partial rents, advances, deposits and vacate settlements. Most importantly, we never touch your money. You stay in control. Tenants don't need any login.
Can I import my existing tenant and rent data from Excel?
Yes, on the Professional and Business plans, you can import your tenants, rooms, beds and historical payments directly from an Excel file. We provide a template, and the import handles common quirks (currency symbols, JS date formats, zero-amount entries).
Does GharDesk collect rent from tenants on my behalf?
No, and that's by design. Payment is handled directly between you and your tenant, cash, UPI, bank transfer, your choice. GharDesk only records that the payment happened and generates the receipt. Your money never passes through our system.
How does GharDesk catch fake UPI screenshots?
Every UPI receipt in GharDesk requires the UTR / 12-digit reference number. On the Business plan, you can upload your bank statement for any date range (CSV, Excel or PDF, any Indian bank) and the Bank Reconciliation tool cross-checks every UTR you collected against the statement. UTRs that aren't in your bank get flagged red so you can verify with the tenant before treating it as collected. Particularly useful for 30 to 100-bed PGs where 1st-to-10th rent rush makes fake screenshots common.
Is my data secure? Where is it stored?
Your data lives in your private GharDesk workspace, secured with row-level isolation so no other owner can ever see it. We don't sell, share or analyse your data. You can export everything to Excel and delete your workspace at any time.
Can I use it on my phone? Do I need to install an app?
GharDesk works in any modern browser on phone, tablet, laptop or desktop. Want it on your home screen like a real app? Just tap "Add to Home Screen", it installs as a PWA with no Play Store or App Store needed.
What if I have multiple properties?
All plans support multiple properties from a single login. Starter supports up to 2, Professional up to 10, Business is unlimited. Switching between properties is one click, and combined reports show everything together.
How does per-bed pricing actually work?
You pay only for occupied beds at the start of each billing cycle, multiplied by your plan's per-bed rate. So if you have a 30-bed PG on the Professional plan (₹25/bed/month) and 24 are occupied on the 1st, your bill is ₹25 × 24 = ₹600 for that month. Empty beds are free. Add or remove beds anytime, we pro-rate to the day.
Do my tenants need to download anything?
No. Only you log in. Tenants receive receipts via WhatsApp, email or printed paper, whatever you prefer. They don't need an app, a login or even an internet connection.
